Must-Haves for Spring Break 2018

February 14, 2018

While it may still feel like the middle of winter around most of the country, spring break is coming up quickly and most brands are set to jet with their resort collections at the ready. With a little inspiration from the season’s newest trends, your warm-weather travel staples are ready to hit refresh for 2018.

A sun hat, swimwear, sandals, and sunglasses make up “the four S’s” that you can’t leave behind on your sunsoaked vacay.

There are dozens of styles of straw hats available. Classic yellow straw, dyed black, cocoa brown, or whitewashed…embroidered, embellished – you name it; there is a style out there for you. A wide-brim hat is so important to protect your hair and face from the sun, plus it comes in handy when you want to take a nap. Place it right on your face for your own personal instant blackout curtains.

Swimwear is all about texture right now, whether you’re a one-piece wearer or a two-piece diehard. While I used to care about how my tan lines would turn out with certain swimsuits, it’s a non-issue these days as brands branch out with bold necklines and unique silhouettes.

Heeled or flat, sandals are the go-to shoe for warm weather as they give your feet the most airflow. I usually like to bring at least one pair of nicer sandals for dinners in addition to daytime flats. Adding a little print can be the perfect way to spice up a bold colored maxi-dress, while the fringe on a pair of flat daytime sandals add a fun texture to denim shorts and a cotton top.

When it comes to wearing sunnies in tropical destinations, the bigger the better. The skin around your eyes is extremely delicate, so protecting the surrounding area is as key as protecting your eyes themselves. Sunglasses set with gold hardware turn your shades into somewhat of a jewelry piece, while plastic and acetate frames lend a more casual, laid-back vibe. As a general standard, angular sunnies like wayfarers work best for rounder faces, and rounder sunglasses like aviators work better for heart-shaped or square faces.

The best part about spring break shopping? Seeking out the must-have pieces at your local Style Encore will leave more money in your pocket to spend from Cabo to Cancun or Palm Springs to Palm Beach. I’ll take one piña colada, please!
